I suppose in some off-kilter way this is my follow up to "The Last Happy Meal." I'd been wanting to do something again with the McDonaldland characters, but nothing had come to mind. Then one day I was thinking about the cool (in my opinion) 1977 TV special "The Hobbit", and as is usually the case, my mind began to make it's own logical connections between different pop culture iconography (see my "Jay Ward's Watchmen" for another good example), and this was what was borne of it. I imagine there's plenty of die-hard Tolkien fans here on DA, and I hope they won't take offense that I took liberties with the designs of the dwarves or Gandalf or Smaug's tail whatever (though I think I'm pretty faithful to Gandalf here). But then again, "The Last happy Meal" garnished all sorts of controversy and turned out to be my most popular DA submission, so I suppose a little feather-ruffling could be a good thing. Regardless, I created this out of affection for both camps of iconography. Hopefully fans of each will be as pleased with it as I am.
Damn the food Nazis for making Mickey D's get rid of their cast of characters like the Hamburglar! This is one messed-up piece, with Hamburglar quoting Gollum. In my mind, I hear Sir Ian McKellen popping off that goofy line from Gandalf (but I still like him better as Magneto, esp. in his Shakespearean showdowns with Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier).
