Earlier in 2006 I labored over what I felt was an accurate caricature of Knightley, and posted it on my website's blog. But for some reason, it never felt just right to me. On and off for months I sketched new versions, never to my satisfaction. I’d always wanted to incorporate the “Pirates of the Caribbean” aspect of her career into the drawing, but figured if I couldn’t get her look down then there was no point in trying. Finally, in a fit, I drew an oval, chiseled away at it with my pencil, and finally came up with what I felt was her definitive look: delicately jutting jaw, Tiny grin perched high on her face, a slight nose barely worth giving serious detail, smiling eyes and thick dark eyebrows. Throw in the pirate theme and I made my definitive Keira Knightley caricature a reality. I just wish I knew how to pull this sort of accuracy in a timelier manner.

i feel like a horrid cad, but i honestly don't see it. theres just something around the eyes and the chin seems to large. she's more like christine baranski in a wig.

Well, like all art, it's subjective. Individual people will see what they see (or don't see), and I appreciate your perspective. I have to contend with the fact they I'm no Mort Drucker (probably the best and most dead-on caricaturist ever. Worked for Mad Magazine since the dawn of time) and at my best, can only get a caricature just so close to the subject. But within the limits of my abilities, I have to take comfort in that between my last attempt at Knightley and this one, I've come that much closer to getting it right (again, in my perspective, not as fact necessarily). But I tell ya, not a moment goes by as I create a caricature that I don't wish with all my heart that I was as talented as Peter DeSeve. That guy is the renaissance artist of caricaturists. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to say "I don't see it." Without such comments, how are artists supposed to evolve?

and don't worry about not being deSeve, I'm fairly sure that guy is some form of mutant at any rate.
